I completed a four hour brick. My RMR (2534) and exercise (3131) put me at 5665 calories and that doesn't take into account the rest of the stuff I did all day. Without eating a bunch of baked goods, that number is hard to reach. I figure I'd rather come up short on calories than eat a bunch of crap just because I can. With that said, I have been good about getting all my calories on rest days and I've been inching closer on light to moderate training days.
And since I know you're wondering, I have lost weight. Initially, my stomach got crazy distended, but once my digestive system got a handle on all that I have been eating, I dropped 5 lbs. Not too shabby.
Oops. Sorry - This morning, my little cherub of a child, Dilly, was talking to me over breakfast.
Dilly, in all of her cuteness ... |
Our conversation went a little something like this ...
Dilly: "Mom, can you take Dizzle to school?"
Me: "No. Your dad is taking her."
Dilly: "Oh, but I like Dad better than I like you."
Me: *frown*
Dilly: "Oops. Sorry. But I do."
Oh, Dilly. Thanks for telling me it like it is. And you should be thankful you're so freaking cute.
With that said, I need to re-prioritize my time. That means, training before they wake up and after they are in bed (even more so than now), focusing on filling their days with experiences and smiles and shutting off the electronics - FOR ALL OF US.
The girls will disconnect from their iPods, computer and television. And I will go on a social media hiatus. I'm turning the alerts on my phone off. I'm not logging on to Twitter and Facebook daily. I'm only going to blog if I have something truly important to say.
It's probably going to be really hard to do, but I kind of can't wait ...

If you pull this off - with the lack of electronics this summer - you are my new hero. You just echoed what I stated my goal this summer was too: less PC time, more quality time with my kids. I am working on it, although not perfect....obviously. :)
Crazy cool on the eating and weight loss. I say I'd love to have to eat that much, but I can't imagine eating that much.
I get to kickstart my summer with a week of zero electronics. I'll either come back with a new appreciation of days unplugged or seriously jonesin' for a fix. Good luck with that plan this summer.
Wow, 5 pound and your eating more...nice! I want to go get that test done. Where do I go?
Great idea for the summer! I need to think about doing that!
I have no problem thinking that turning off social media will be a problem for you! You can do it.. you will be missed!! I've really backed away from twitter and FB lately, and it was hard at first, but it's much better now!
Oh don't you love children - a few weeks after we had our baby, my older son said "Mom - are you sure you can handle being a mom of two kids" as our baby continued to cry for hours. Sigh....
Do you read Hands Free Mama blog? She just created a summer contract with her kids that we plan on duplicating (and modified to meet our needs).
I seriously want to get my RMR checked. This still blows my mind.
Are all kids as hilarious as yours? Yours crack me up.
Fabulous job with the eating and weightloss! I am wondering, did you use an online RMR before you went for testing? If so, how discrepant if at all were the figures?
I'm still so fascinated with the RMR and love reading your progress. I am struggling with 10 lbs I gained since the end of last year to so I really need to step up my game and do something about it.
Unplugging is such a great idea. I need to do that with my family.
She is too cute! Gotta love her honesty! I love the idea of unplugging more in the summer. This summer is my last with just my one daughter and I and I want to really make sure we have a lot of time together where I'm not pulled by something less important than her like social media! After this summer there will be two to bond with!
She really is WAY cute :)
That is GREAT T.. Good luck!
Sounds refreshing! I feel the same...I want to soak up my little ones while I can! See you soon girl!
It's pretty nice when you disconnect! I bet you will have a blast with the kiddos!! =)
And funny how upping the calories can help you cut the pounds, when you eat healthy anyway!!
