coffee anyone?

It has been brought to my attention by my dear and loving husband that I drink A LOT of coffee. (Funny, considering that I wouldn't touch it before I was pregnant with Dilly). I know you're thinking "OK. Well, so do I." But no, that's where you'd be wrong. You are probably not drinking as much as me. I easily consume an entire pot of coffee each day (and on occasion, more). And I am pretty sure that it does absolutely NOTHING for me. I'm never wired. Or energized. In fact, I am still passed out on the sofa by 9:30 almost every night.

So, why do I drink it? Well, let's see ...

I drink too much coffee because run 40 miles a week, cross train with P90X six days a week, manage a household and parent three children 24/7. And I mistakenly think it is going to give me more energy ...

I drink too much coffee because I am a stress eater and drinking a cup of coffee is FAR FEWER calories than eating a candy bar every time my children test my last nerve ...

I drink too much coffee because on more than one occasion in the last week I have had to clean up fecal matter from Dilly's crib. And I'm over it ...

I drink too much coffee because my laptop is slow as heck. The processor is overloaded and I need something to do while I wait for my email to open ...

I drink too much coffee because sometimes I need a break and my children actually listen when I say, "Give Mommy five minutes so that she can finish her coffee" ...

I drink too much coffee because there is only so much high-pitched screaming one person can take. And if you've ever been to my house, you know that we are over that limit ...

I drink too much coffee because I serve as the VP of Licensing for my children's preschool. I deal with A LOT of bureaucracy and red tape and people who don't return phone calls ...

I drink too much coffee because I am working out the details of turning my passion of running into a business. A business that doesn't negatively affect my family life. Or my bank account ...

I drink too much coffee because I don't drink alcohol. Enough said ...

Oh yeah - coffee holds my sanity too!! It's yummy and comforting and not too bad for ya, so enjoy!

All valid reasons....keep drinking and enjoying it! I have cut back to maybe one coffee a week, it was hard but I am onto green tea now!

Lynette said...

Sounds like good reasons to me =) I can relate to almost all of them...

Well....you definitely drink way more coffee than me, and I can only have decaf. But...I have to get a hot cocoa from Starbucks every day....I think we all have our vice. :)

We all need something to get us through the day, I can think of a lot worse things than coffee you could be drinking or taking, so enjoy.

I just read it's supposed to prevent alzheimer's so there's one worry to check off your list.

Makes me wanna head to Starbucks.

love this.

I don't drink alcohol or coffee. But I think I may take up coffee after this post. :)

Haha - great post. Ditto for me practically everything you said (especially about the kids) but substitute tea for coffee!

I don't drink coffee either, but this is a fantastic list. :)

i dnt like coffee...i really wish i did because something about it seems so...calming in an energizing kind of way. ps now that marathon training is done (well at least for now haha) I no longer have an excuse to keep P90X under my bed. help.

I drink pretty much the same amount of you! But, I have a shorter list with fewer excuses other than I'm an addict! LOL!
Oh, and I drink the occasional cocktail - my sanity depends on that, too!
Happy Thursday!

LOL, you know, as I dog paddle around treading water in my life, I sometimes wonder how the moms who run can do it all. Now I know!! LOL

I don't like coffee, but I drink an incredible amount of tea.

Oh man, I love the taste of coffee and it doesn't seem to get me wired (unless I drink a LOT), but my doctor wants me to stop due to coffee being an "Inflammatory Food." Bummer.

Haha! At least you're getting all your liquids in during the day. :)

I never drank coffee before I had B either. So weird that now I can't get enough. And I'm the same way, I used to drink one in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at night (RIGHT before bed), and never seem to get the pep people talk about. I've cut down to one a day, but it's tough!

Drinking some right now =)

I thought that I've read that it's good to drink some the morning of a race.

We are dealing with fecal matter here too. Number 4 child is having an accident everyday this past week. Ugh!

I would so like to have you as a running coach... trying to rearrange the budget to make it happen.

Great list. Thanks for the laughs.

I love you!!!

I drink too much coffee because I ran a Marathon this weekend and have to get up at 5:45AM...and wear a suit and be professional.

Sounds reasonable to me! I've never been a coffee-drinker. I've never even had one cup! I hate the taste. :/

I'm with you on that last one. Coffee = yes. Alcohol = NO.

Are you sure your not drinking decaf? Just kidding! If you had any more energy you'd make us all look more like slackers.

You need to post about turning your running into a business. I am super interested in how you do that. It is not an option where I live now (PA) except to work with the local schools and right now I already work full time. However, I am eager to read about how someone who has a "market" goes about it. My situation may change someday (maybe).

Thank you for making me smile this morning! I needed it! Now, off to get my 3rd cup of coffee for the day before heading out to run errands with 3 of my 5 kiddos...

That makes me feel so much better. I couldn't understand how you do everything you do and survive. Now I know! Coffee is the only reason I get up some mornings!

I was never much of a coffee drinker until this past year. Now that I run and deal with an overactive toddler it's my escape time. I need it in the afternoon to get me through the end of the day. But I do "fake" coffee, Starbucks vanilla frappuccino that you get at the grocer. I've been drinking it enough lately that I need to come up with my own recipe to save some money.

Awesome post! Can totally identify with most of it!

So curious to see what your business venture is going to be (is it your coaching?)! Whatever it is, you will rock it!

Sounds like you need an espresso maker. That way you can drink just as much liquid and get even more of a JOLT!

P.S. I love coffee too but try to mix it up with having some tea most days. That way when I do have coffee I get a lil bit of a JOLT myself. :)

I don't drink coffee... I do not like the taste.

I do drink over 100 oz of water a day, does that count?

Food for thought in case you are looking to STOP drinking so much coffee. Coffee has LOTS of acid in it. Our bodied do not get rid of that acid and it clings to our fat cells making it more difficult to shed.

I actually have a water contraption that removed acid from my tap water. Coffee is the worse, second is propel sports drink.

Think about it.

BTW: If you are looking to expand your business to MD, I am happy to come on board! LOL!

oh my word, i think we live in the same house of chaos. I am a stress eater too...I think i might need to go start the coffee pot instead.

LOL! I drink coffee for a lot of the same reasons. The main difference between us is that coffee totally wires me!

And let's talk about that business this weekend - I'll "show you mine" if you'll "show me yours" LOL

Oh how I love my coffee too! That time in the morning with my cup, is my little peice of heaven/sanity. :)

There are worse things... Here is a quote I enjoy...dunnno who said it though.. It makes me chuckle:
"Life is one cup of coffee after another, and don't look for anything else"

i think you should start drinking wine;)

Sarah said...

I drink a lot of coffee too, and I swear it doesn't make me jumpy either! Drip or a latte (a triple!) but it makes no difference. I tried to tell people that and no one believes me! So glad to hear it from someone else too! :)

yes! Coffee is my alcohol. You know how some people relax at the end of the day with wine? Nope, for me its coffee.

And oddly it doesn't keep me up. Most nights I sleep like a baby.

Pam @ herbieontherun.com said...

I drink coffee to perk me up in the morning and wine to relax at night. The best of both worlds!!!

I cannot drive past a Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks without getting something. I am waiting for the exterminator to come right now, so I'm stuck in the house... it's too hot for me to make hot coffee... so I'm downing my other caffeine demon, Diet Coke, which is POISON. Oh well!

Aimee said...

Ha! love it! Especially the one about having the kids give you 5 more min. so you can finish your coffee! My husband and I say that almost every morning! :)

Char said...

I so get it. That's why I drink too much tea. It's like a little oasis you can escape to.

Love this post! especially meaningful to me this week since I gave up caffeine for this diet/cleanse I'm doing...what was I thinking! :)

too funny! I actually dont drink coffee, but your post made me tired!

Fun post and I love the comments, too. Coffee got me through the two's, the elementary school days, jr. high and then the teenage years...and guess what? I'm finally slowing down with the coffee drinking. Fecal matter? Need to hear more about that. There's nothing like a good kid/poop story!

I drink a lot of coffee too. I started after my second child, I am not sure which child Dilly is in birth order. I used to drink a pot and then some after work. I seem to have cut down recently. I always used to reward myself post workout with coffee but don't seem to always want it lately. When I travel by car I need lots even though like you it doesn't seem to do much to me. I can drink it late at night. I can not drink it until late in the day. I also drink it to "fill me up" rather than eat. I never tried the let mommy finish her coffee when my kids were little. I like that one.

I can't wait to hear more about your "running business"! Does that mean that you're going to be coaching? Whatever it is, I am so excited!
