Camerica ...

In case you didn't realize, we had a fantastic time on our trip to Disney. While we were there, we established some general rules for navigating the parks. J usually split from us immediately after walking through the gate to grab a FastPass for our favorite rides. Then we'd meet either at a show or an attraction with a historically short wait. It worked well. We rarely waited more than 10 minutes for anything and we were able to piggyback our FastPasses on each other.

In addition to having rules for navigating the parks, we also had rules about what we would and would not do. Country Bear Jamboree and Hall of Presidents? Never going to happen. Tower of Terror and Expedition Everest? We'd probably get in a fist fight for the last FastPass.

There were also rules that applied to our children.
1. 3D shows/attractions are a complete waste of time. The girls FREAK OUT and scream through the whole thing.
2. If you are tall enough to ride, you HAVE to ride. At least once. Because you don't know if you like it unless you try (this is how we know 3D rides don't work for them). And most of the time, they like it. Some of the girls' favorite rides were Big Thunder Mountain, Expedition Everest, The Haunted Mansion and Tower of Terror.
3. You can go on anything that you want, even if everyone else thinks you are crazy/strange/boring. Mom is the only one who can veto your selection.

Because of rule #3, Doodle ended up seeing the "O Canada" movie in Epcot. Out of the blue she decided that she HAD to see it. The rest of us weren't feeling it as much. So, J agreed to go with her while the rest of us explored (read: shopped).

After we met up again, she said the film was good and she never mention it again. Until yesterday.

We were eating dinner, then out of the blue, this conversation occurred:

Doodle: Dizzle should have done the Camerica thing at Disney.
Me: (with no clue as to what she was talking about) Oh, yeah. She really should have.
Dizzle: (to me) What did she say?
Me: I'm not sure.
Doodle: Dizzle should have done the Camerica thing at Disney. It was good and it was very small.
Me: Huh? What was it about?
Doodle: You know, the Camerica movie.
Me: Oh, you mean the CANADA movie.
Doodle: Yeah, Dizzle should have seen it.
Dizzle: What's Canada?

Does anyone else think I should buy my kids a map?

love rule #3. we had the same rule growing up and although sometimes my parents lied and told us we were getting on a "train ride" or "boat ride" (that typically meant roller coaster or log flume of some sorts) but that's how my love of thrill rides started =). And I am very excited to hear YOU got on all that stuff...no puking?

HAH! I love this. I'm from Canada and I have to admit, it makes me laugh when I hear adult Americans not have a clue about Canada and basic things like how many provinces we have and that we do NOT have a president, lol. I once had an American say something like "Oh you are from Vancouver? Wow, it must be so nice to live close to Hawaii." Yeah, if a 5-6 hour plane ride is close....

Thanks for entering my giveaway :)

O'Camerica! ...has a nice ring to it.

B'nut hated (HATED) splash mountain & the haunted mansion. ~sigh~. We keep hoping that by the next time we go she'll have forgotten the "scariness" of it. But, like you, we made her ride them one time.

HILARIOUS : ) I love it!

I also like the 3 rules! Wish I had them when I was little since I won't get on anything more exciting than a merry go round.

I like rule #2. We had to force our kids on many rides because they thought they were scary and then they loved them.

LOVE IT! haha

My friends did the same thing to their son. Except they were sneakier about it. He REFUSED to ride a roller coaster than went upside down, so they just flat out lied (you couldn't see the track from where you stood in line) and told him it didn't. They didn't tell him it did until they were strapped in and taking off. The kid freakin' loved it.

Camerica... I love it!

You had some great rules for Disney... you have to or else it's overwhelming and you'll end up walking around in circles!

Haaaa! We have the same type of rules, and treat Disney world like a strategic playground :D.

Those epcot movies... Man. Lol

Rules? Genius! Maybe the girls would enjoy a globe - they're way more fun than a map.

I have been laughing about this all morning. We had a similiar Canada experience this summer revolving around a town called Candia in NH. My daughter, Siri, was going to a horse show in Candia and came in the house screaming excitedly for us to get her passport. I'm like "your passport? where are you going?" I am going to a horse show in Candia, you know the country on top of us?" ummmm...no ding dong you are going to Candia in NH which is 30 minutes away. The beauty of it , she is 10. Thanks for being so inspiring this year. I don't know if I would have made it this far with out you! Here is to a great 2011!!

I was, I mean, I AM terrified of rides...so when my kids were young, I went on rides with them and pretended to enjoy it so that they would then learn to enjoy the rides. Today, all three of them have a blast at theme parks, while I watch (they know the truth now :)).

Camerica? Isn't that where Alaska is? :) I like the idea of a globe...they have great ones for kids.

Happy New Year to you and your wonderful family. I wish you a healthy, injury-free year in 2011!

No don't buy a map, instead register for a run in Toronto so #1 the girls can come and see Canada and #2 I can finally meet you and run with you. Now that sounds like a great plan to me ;)

PS - We have simialr Disney rules too but my DD loves the 3D shows!
