3TT: Travel Edition ...

Christmas - As you may know, J and I have started the tradition of taking the kids on vacation for Christmas, rather than filling our house with things we don't need. I want my children to have experiences, not things (They do still get a gift from Santa, though).

Plus, Dizzle, Doodle and Dilly are the only children on either side of the family, which means there are PLENTY of gifts for them to open from everyone else. Last year, we surprised the girls with a trip to Disney. And we had an absolute blast.

On Tuesday, we booked our tickets for this year's trip to SAN DIEGO - home of Legoland, the San Diego Zoo, Sea World and the Running Skirts store (OK, it's in Encinitas, but close enough). This trip is going to be total awesomesauce.

Summer Adventures - Each Summer, J and I try to make a trip back to see our families in NJ and RI. This year, thanks in large part to my race travel and the aforementioned San Diego trip, J isn't going to be able to get time off work. So, instead, I will be road tripping with the girls.

Next weekend, we will head up to NJ, a short, six hour drive from here. It should be heaven. In a complete torture kind of way. Seven days after we return, G and I head out to San Francisco for our Girl's Race Weekend (J was kind enough to take off time, so that I could go).

But the fun doesn't stop there, in August, I am going to be brave and make the 12 hour trip to RI with no backup. After spending six days there, I'll make that 12 hour trip again and then leave the following morning to run Hood to Coast with my nuunmates.

It might be just me, but I'm thinking that this plan borders on insanity ...

NYC - My final destination trip this year will be the NYC Marathon. I am running with Team Grassroot Soccer and have committed to raising $3000 and I need your help to reach my goal.

Right now, I am hosting an AWESOME fundraising raffle HERE. There are 12 fabulous prizes left and I will be selecting the NEXT 3 WINNERS TOMORROW. You know you want to enter. All you have to do is make a donation HERE and then leave a comment on the raffle post. Easy peasy.

And, if you want another shot at winning a sweet prize, check out my current giveaway HERE. Thanks to OnlineShoes.com, one lucky winner will walk (or run) away with a new pair of Brooks.

We do the same thing but every other year. This is our year for our winter vacation and we booked it last night, another trip to Disney... 10 days of fun, sun and sea!

I have taken my three littles on a road trip that was 16 hours away. I am not going to lie, it wasn't all easy but it wasn't that bad either... I would do it again. You will have a great time!!

Make it a great day!

Taveling 4 hours with three kids with my wife and I is a nightmare. I could not imagine doing alone and for longer! Good luck!

I like that idea of Christmas. I think that is something I will talk over with the wife. Its about the memories and the moments. Not the possesions.

Yuor trips sound like so much fun! When you're in SF, let me know if you make it towards Sacramento (I'm very close to Sac).

San Diego will be awesome! As will SF and H2C... those road trips? Not so much. ;)

Love it! We have a thanksgiving tradition of not sitting around eating but instead doing something fun and active as a family (like disney)

Whatever you get J to get to live this life, I need you to slip me some for M. Please and Thank You!

I love love love you Christmas tradition. We have been do a lot more experience trips with the kids this summer. It is running me a bit ragged right now. But I agree with your thoughts on sharing the knowledge and experiences instead of giving them stuff. Our trip to to Ashlawn-Highland might not have been their fav if it hadn't been for all the kid friendly activities but I hope some knowledge snuck in their little heads too.

I love your Christmas idea. And, SD is my FAVORITE place to be in the winter. The weather is absolutely perfect. The beaches are great fun, even when the water is chilly. Also, if you have time, check out the aquarium at Scripps university in La Jolla. They have really nice exhibits and the view from the facility is gorgeous - take a sack lunch & dine outside.

Once you go to the San Diego zoo you will never like another zoo again! BEST zoo ever. La Jolla is nice to. We went some where and watched sea lions come up on a beach some where close to La Jolla. I remember a Gas Light district too?? We loved San Diego but it has been like 10 years since we went.

Can I just say that I love that you are giving your children the gift of travel. My parents always took us on a trip to see some part of the US and it created so many memories that I'll never forget. :) Kudos!
