My number one running goal for 2011 was to run 2,000 miles.
This morning, I logged my 1,604 mile and had to admit that I am not going to make my goal.
Although, it will be REALLY close.
Sure, it's possible for me to run 396 more miles this year.
That's only 5.9 miles a day.
Maybe if I hadn't crashed my bike and only ran 16.38 miles in May.
Maybe if I didn't have bigger plans and goals for 2012.
Maybe if I didn't have three fabulous kids, a husband and a life that needs balance.
The thing is, I will not compromise the bigger picture for the details.
And 2,000 miles is a detail.

Great reminder!
I wanted to run 1500 miles this year - I might get there, I might not but I need to keep the bigger picture in mind, getting that goal is only a detail!
I think it's still amazing that you will come so close! You are a rockstar!!
Your awesome family is way better than 2000 miles!
WISE, you are very wise! You have bigger fish to fry than 2000 miles... and there is always next year!
True story! You rock.
Way to go focusing on the big picture! I have a hard time stepping back and looking at the big picture so this is a great reminder post as I try to "rest" for the next 3 weeks before starting to train for marathon #2. Appreciate you!
Great post!! So true.
I think I needed this post this morning. I get overwhelmed when I try to fit everything in but sometimes its just not necessary. It is ok to do your best and let it go. Time with my family is so much more important!
Great attitude about it! And a great reminder to keep everything into perspective!
It's all about priorities. And you've got yours just right!
Good perspective, great post.
Love when you can find a positive when not reaching a goal. Can't wait to read about your upcoming training.
Right on :)
love it!! Perspective. You always put things in perspective. Love your priorities!
Hey, dont' you live on the east coast - like Virginia or something?? We are looking at moving to North Carolina in the next couple months and wanted to know what the running scene is like in that area. are you in a big city? We will probably NOT be in a big city, but I'm a little nervous about finding races close to where we would be.
