Shocking - Since I dyed my hair pink a few weeks back, people have been asking me if I chose the color to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Depending on who's asking, I say, "Um. Sure, that's why." or "Not really. I just thought it would be fun and it is a nice coincidence."
Honestly, I can almost always tell what people really think of it just from the look on their face and usually telling them that I did it as an awareness measure, somehow makes it seem less deviant. Go figure.
But, this morning, I totally read someone wrong. I was at Dizzle's school and one of the teachers asked me if there was a meaning to my hair color. I thought she was on board with the crazy pink hair so I said, "Nope. I just thought it'd be a fun thing to do."
Her reply? "Oh. (pause and loss of smile) That's nice."
See what I mean? Apparently, deviance is OK, as long as you have a good reason.
Six Minutes - Speaking of Dizzle's school, I visited this morning to join her for PE class. They were scheduled to run as many laps as they could in six minutes. It was awesome. Dizzle paced herself well and ran the whole time, finishing 5.25 laps (.58 mile) in the six minutes (10:20 pace).
When we got back inside and the teacher was tallying everyone's mileage, she asked how far I ran. I said I also ran 5.25 laps. She replied, "OK. I just wanted to check because some of the parents in other classes have run farther than their kids."
WHAT!?!? This was a race? I didn't have to stick with my kid? I could have schooled them all?
Don't get me wrong, it was great to run with Dizzle. But I already told her that next year I am going to crush her ...
10 Days - There are only 10 days until the NYC Marathon. My training plan does not have a taper built in. Yet, I am not freaking out at all. I guess this is what "trusting the plan" feels like ...

I can just see it, lapping your own kid repeatedly just so all the kids will know how fast you can run...
Dizzle did awesome!
Lol! It would be like Billy Madison!!! Next year you can school them! Dizzle did great!!! I like the pink hair....reason or not!
Was this a visit for PS day? Like an event? I love that you joined PE. I worry that PE has become a babysitting time for most schools. I peeked in on my daughter's one day in PE and was impressed that the teacher had them excited, running, working together, and having fun. As a former PE teacher, I can tell you how often most teachers really engage a class. And it is sad. Yay for accountable PE teachers with constructive activities and goals and yay for you for making a fitness memory with your babe!
Oh you are definitely going to show them how it's done at PE next year!!
10 days, woohoo!
I get the breast cancer awareness question about my hair too! When I first had it done in Feb a couple years ago, I also got "is that for valentine's day?" Yes, I color my hair for all the major holidays. I also have 20 million cats.
People are nuts. You look awesome, people who don't think so need a life.
You are totally going to crush Dizzle next year. Unless she starts training...
HILARIOUS!!! Why would the parents run farther than their kids, that just seems wrong..
Go get it girl..
I would probably give you a funny look about your hair if I didn't "Know" you and your super style.. I am a bit conservative and a rule follower that way...I had thick bangs in high school and did not pierce my ears until age 30, nuff said..
OMG, you wrote the pace of your kid???? Too funny.....
Who wouldn't run with their kids! Great for Dizzle though!
Just so you know, the mental picture of you knocking kids out of the way at next year's race totally made me laugh out loud.
I laughed out loud when I read this post. Really, some parents outran their own children. What were they thinking!
Way to go Dizzle..
With your training and preparation, you don't need a taper: you will rock NYC! :) 10 days: woohoo!
NO taper??? You are awesome :)
That's so mean that a parent would show up to run with their kid and then not stay with them.
But I guess I could understand if the kid didn't want to have their parent right at their side during school. That's always such an "uncool" thing! haha
Next year it's 5k pace and the kids can eat dust!
You are going to ROCK NYC!! You are my inspiration on this run. As for the deviant pink hair, girl I am totally going to come and live in your neighbourhood when I am done school. I have always been the alternative one. The one who goes against the "rules" of being a mom.;) I tell proudly tell people that "I am who I am. I want my kids to see me be that person and not someone who I am not.". You are teaching your children a great lesson about being your own person. Be proud.
