Three Things Thursday, the Dizzle edition ...

1. Dizzle is really into this whole running thing. On Tuesday, I took her out again to run the mile loop from our house. And about 3/4 of the way in, I realized how much like me she really is - that's when she hit her "wall." (3/4 of the way through is where I want to quit too). But, I told her that she was fine and that she just had to tell herself that she could do it.

So, that's exactly what she did. For the last three tenths of the mile, she repeated over and over, "I CAN DO IT! I CAN DO IT!" It was pretty much the cutest thing ever. And she finished the mile with a new PR, by 51 seconds.

I instantly gave her a high five and told her how proud I was of her. Then, I immediately followed the cheers with a dose of reality, telling her that if she hadn't wasted so much energy chanting that she could run even faster. Only I would do that ....

2. Since Dizzle is turning into a running machine, I have signed her up for her first race. She is going to run the Richmond Times-Dispatch 1 Mile Kids Run, the Friday of the Richmond Marathon. She is super excited for two reasons. First, I get to run with her and she is all about one-on-one time (plus I can pace her to a killer time). And second, she gets a medal. And if you know anything about Dizzle, you know she's all about the bling ...

3. In addition to her running, Dizzle is also spending a lot of time at school. And she is loving it. She is also loving her prospects for future relationships and marriage. A few days ago, Dizzle, Doodle and I had this conversation ...

Dizzle: "Doodle, you should marry Thomas when you grow up."
Doodle: "NO! I DON'T WANT TO MARRY HIM!"
Dizzle: "Well, when I grow up, I am going to marry James."
Me: "Really? Who's James? Why do you want to marry him?"
Dizzle: "He's in my class. And I like him."
Me: "Oh. Well, is he nice?"
Dizzle: "Yes, he is. Doodle, you should really marry Thomas."
Doodle: "I DON'T WANT TO!"
Dizzle: "Well, I am going to marry James. Or Andrew. Or James. Or Andrew. Mom, how do you choose?"
Me: "Dizzle, I think that you should wait a LONG time before you get married. I was really old before I knew I wanted to marry your daddy. You should probably make up your mind later.
Dizzle: "OK. But, I am going to marry James or Andrew. Doodle? You should marry Thomas."
Doodle: "I DON'T WANT TO MARRY HIM!"

Sometimes, I wonder why I say anything at all ...

I am on the opposite end of the spectrum with two little boys. Rowen, now 4, is starting to realize girls are different, and thus the "eww/cootie" factor is kicking in. What is it about little boys? LOL!

Love it! My daughter told me a couple weeks ago that she was going to marry pretty much any boy in her class! When I told her she needed to be more selective, she told me Brody was it. Pretty much the nicest boy in her class... she's 5! Thanks for the giggle as I sit here drinking my coffee and eating my zone bar telling myself that my mile repeats ARE going to be fun and try to get my rear out the door!

I don't think I could get S'ghetti girl to run a mile with me if I bribed her with...well anything. She does not like to sweat. Period.
LBM on the other hand already KNOWS he can out run me and he wants to prove it daily. He hasn't quite figured out the treadmill yet!

You guys will have such a great time at her race. You are creating a running monster! You better watch it, she'll beat you someday.

I just HAVE to know more about Thomas! ;-)

I love running with my girls. Congrats Dizzle!!! I love the things my girls talk about. Little M had an older man who was crushing on her last year. Such excitement for 1st Grade. For my sake I hope they are both really old too before seriously thinking about boys.

I think it's great to get the future-life-partner thing sorted early and then just get on with life. Saves so much hassle later on.

It's an awesome thing we're doing for our kiddos, isn't it? My parents never involved me in exercise...and I didn't figure it out on my own until I was 30. We're lucky that our kids will grow up knowing that exercise is fun and builds self esteem.

specifically MY self esteem because when I push my daughter (3) in the jogger she says "you're doing great, mom! good job runnin'!"

seriously though- totally excited to hear about her first race. :)
