Three Things Thursday ...

1. Recovery - Everyone in this house is on the mend. Dizzle and Dilly are pretty much back to normal. But, J isn't feeling too hot and Doodle spiked a 103 degree fever last night. Needless to say, there wasn't a lot of sleeping going on last night. Personally, I am feeling significantly better than when I drafted my letter to the Marathon Fairy. Much of the pressure in my face has dissipated and I am not feeling nearly as weak. I even made it out for a five mile run at a 9:53 pace this morning. It was harder that it probably should have been, but I did just run a marathon, you know.

2. Weight - I mentioned yesterday that I gained eight pounds. I wanted to blame it on the Marathon Fairy, but if we are being honest here. I got trapped in that whole "I run 50 miles a week, I can eat whatever I want" mentality. Unfortunately, that's not true.

I became rather lazy in my food journaling (which keeps me in line). I was kind of guessing calorie counts and not adding in all of the handfuls of this or bites of that. So, I decided to change my food journal format. I usually add my calories up during the day ending with a number somewhere between 2,200 and 2,800 (Note: that was without all those "extras" I was leaving out).

Now, I decided to start with my total number of calories and subtract everything that I eat from that total. And when I get to zero, I have to stop eating. And this is working for me. There is something about know that you only have X number of calories left that will stop you from unnecessary snacking. It also made me realize how much mindless snacking I do. Trust me, it's not pretty.

3. Upcoming Races - Several people have asked what's next for me now that the marathon is over. Well, right now my primary focus is this race HERE. It's a 1 mile Kid's Run on Saturday. It's Dizzle's first race and I am her pacer. I am so excited for her. And for the coordinated outfits we are going to wear.

Aside from that race, I am currently REGISTERED for the HCA 8K (part of the Richmond Marathon) on 11/13 and the National Marathon in D.C. on 3/26. Oh, and I am 95% sure of my 2011 race calendar, but that's hush hush for now ...

glad you're feeling better! i have a strict no running for two weeks after a marathon rule. its hard, but i do think that it prepares my body for the next hard training cycle. can't wait to hear more about 2011! you are a racing maniac...and i won't be surprised if you turned into a marathon maniac :)

The "I can eat whatever I want because I am training for a marathon" trap will get you every time! I know it all too well, sigh... Seriously, that is the thing that made it painfully obvious to me that it really is a balance of diet and exercise. It turns out you can't just exercise everything away. (bummer). After my first marathon, I couldn't fit comfortably in my jeans anymore. Ot was a big light bulb moment. I have used daily plate online in the past - it is the same concept of subtracting out the calories as you consume. Really liked it. So glad you are feeling better!

I love the idea of taking your calories to zero instead of counting up. I know it's really the same thing as counting them to a certain number, but for some reason that sounds like a better way. I'm going to try that!
Good luck to little Dizzle on Saturday! That is super exciting!!

I think that having the calorie "bank" (I guess) would be so much more effective for people than having to tally up. Great idea!

Glad you are feeling better and that most of the family is on the mend too.

I like that idea of counting down your calories. I may have to steal it.

Have so much fun at the 1-miler with Dizzle!!

Glad you all are getting over the yuck bug. We are struggling with it locally too. (Night sweats last night, not pretty!)

What you mean I can't just eat what I want? heehee
I LOVE your count down idea! Again you are soo organized.

Dizzle's first race will be so great. I can't wait for s'ghetti girl to read about that. Maybe it will help her see what she is missing?! I also can't believe you have your 2011 calendar set. I only have an idea through March of what I will run. Maybe that is why Hubbs get so frustrated with me? ;-)

I usually gain weight during marathon training, but this last cycle I lost 11 pounds! I don't know what happened! I'm hoping it sticks! Good luck, if anyone can do it, it's you!

I'm a snacker too... ugh. Must quit. Love your method.

I'm thinking about putting a Virginia race on my 2011 calendar (it's where I grew up and my mom still lives there)... so I'm looking forward to the big race calendar reveal!

I'm glad your family is all on the mend!

Good for you for getting out! I'm still taking it easy this week after my marathon. I have another one coming up in Jan., so I just don't want to push it!

good luck to Dizzle for this weekend. It's going to be so much fun for both of you and a great Mommy/daughter memory.

Snacking is my kryptonite. I sit at my desk all day, and just grab a handful of things here and there... like if it's just a little, *it doesn't even count!*.

Oh, but it does ;)

I drop weight like crazy as soon as I stop snacking. Too bad I can't seem to stop snacking LOL.

Can't wait to hear the racing plans. Hopefully we'll get to start a race together again this year. ;o)
