Three Things Thursday ...

1. Last night, I met with Dizzle's teacher for a parent-teacher conference. Going in, I was confident that she was academically thriving. All of her graded papers have had "100%" written across the top. Plus, I have spoken to Dizzle before, so I kind of know what she knows and what she doesn't.

The part I was worried about was her behavior. Now, don't get me wrong, she's a very well behaved child, simply because she is a RULE FOLLOWER. With that said, she is also a BIG TALKER. Like a "doesn't stop to take a breath" talker.

I deal with it at home by telling her to "shut it" or simply ignoring the constant stream of vocabulary vomit. But, that's not going to happen at school. School tends to be a place when excessive talking isn't tolerated. And I already knew she was talking straight through lunch, since she comes home with a nearly full lunch box on most days. I just didn't know if it was rolling over into the classroom.

So, how do you think the conference went?

Yup. I was dead on. She is killing it academically, already exceeding the end of the year assessment standards. (Yes, I'm bragging. Deal with it.) And apparently, she DOES NOT SHUT UP in class. And it's not just chatting to her neighbor. She's also big on interrupting her teacher. So much so that she got a time-out for it today. And the kicker is, she's 100% aware of what she is doing. Kind of sounds to me like someone thriving on being the center of attention. Wonder who she could have gotten that trait from?

2. After the parent-teacher conference, I jumped on the treadmill for a tempo run. I wanted to get a feel for my goal race pace, so I planned on a mile warm-up followed by four miles at race pace followed by a one mile cool-down.

Things started off well. I ran the first mile in 10:00. Then I picked it up to goal race pace (8:00). But after the first mile at that pace, I was feeling strong, so I decided to push it a little. Mile 3 clocked in at 7:53. Mile 4 was 7:47 and Mile 5 was a 7:41. When I hit the 8K mark, the clock read 41:11, an unofficial PR (even with the 10:00 first mile).

Did I mention how I am going to kill the 8K next month?

3. Speaking of the 8K, I know that G, J and I aren't the only ones running the races of the Richmond Marathon. And with that in mind, I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in meeting up for dinner the night before the race.

G and I have discussed a place (Italian, located in the suburbs of Richmond), but I want to get an idea of how many people there would be before we commit/announce. So, if you are running Richmond and want to meet up, shoot me an email at racingwithbabes@yahoo.com to let me know. And be sure to include how many people will be with you.

I was the SAME way and I learned to cope... my teacher was very patient. One trick was when I wanted to say something and it wasnt the right time, she asked me to write it down... in this little book I would carry... as a 1st graders, I realized that it was much harder to write it all down, that I learned to be quieter...

I wouldn't miss the opportunity to bond with TMB and G at the pre-race dinner. You know I'm there!

You are totally gonna kill your 8K!

Dizzle might be a talker, but at least she can still get her work done and do well. :)

You will have a very good 8k time, particularly with that downhill finish. However, don't get cocky. Treadmills are great for a little assistance with pace. And don't forget the unforgiving November headwinds that often crush racers on Broad Street on raceday.

Good luck. I'm doing the HM.

It's impressive that she's doing so well academically AND interrupting the teacher at the same time.

Awesome work on that PR...with a nice slow start. That's real nice.

Flippin' dinner sounds nice. I'm there in spirit.

That's awesome that she is doing so well academically. But the whole interrupting thing.... that must be frustrating / annoying for the teacher and other students.

I have a talker too who comes by it honestly...as does Dizzle I'm sure.;) Embrace it! Except for the whole interrupting the teacher part...
Way to go on an awesome tempo run!!

Hahaha, I was exactly like Dizzle! My teachers would HATE me because I wouldn't shut up, but they couldn't make an example out of me, as I always got 100% in everything. (Sorry to tell you, this behavior continue through high school...)

I am totally considering doing the Richmond full or half (I've never been to Richmond and I live so close!). Most likely the half, because I'm doing my second full ever just 3 weeks after my first one. The only problem is that's on a Saturday, and I'm not sure if I can make it to packet pick up on time, since I have to deal with DC traffic to get there... I'm still considering though...

Oh I wish S'ghetti girl was all 100% she gets mad when I see 98% and ask her about the missing 2%. I tell her the 2% is the price of constant chatter! That is the only issue she has ever had at school. Okay that and walking UP the slide once in first grade. I guess that's a BIG no-no!

Are we to be surprised at your ubber speediness? I'm not. You've been hiding it to crush a major PR, we are on to you!

I wish I was running Richmond! Hubbs and I have to work a bit better together next year on the planning of events. You guys will have a blast! (I think we might be in AZ that weekend. My Bday weekend! If we are in town I'll let you know.)

i'm pretty sure my mom got a lot of "she learns well, but it doesn't matter who she's sitting by she won't stop talking." never really changed...even through college.

and speaking of parent-teacher conferences, i have my "teacher" ones next week. i always gets stressed and nervous. like sweating-through-my-suit-jacket kind of nervous. oh well...i'll get through it.

way to be speedy girl!!!

Thanks for the 8K inspiration. I am also racing an 8K on 11/13. I haven't felt great about the training leading up to it, so thanks for the little nudge.

Awesome tempo run! I'm excited for your 8k report! I wish I had known about the blogging community for Richmond last year! It would have been a blast to hang with you in your hood.

I wish I was closer to you all so I could join you. Seems I have a lot of bloggy buddies that are near each other, but nowhere near me. =( I am slightly nervous about my son's conference next week for the same reason....he's a talker, gets it from his mommy. I'm sure to post about it next weekend. =)

I was totally Dizzle as a kid.... I read and that and just thought "my poor mom...how many times did she want to shove a sock in me?!?"

Eventually she'll learn to keep it in at school and then let it all out at home. You think she talks a lot at home now, just wait until that happens.

So wish we didn't have dinner plans that night! I'd totally drive down and join you guys.
