triathlon confession ...

Confession: I am a runner who is really loving triathlon training.

Confession: Swimming doesn't suck. Sure, it isn't easy, but I actually look forward to my swim workouts. Well, other than the 4:30 a.m. wake up call.

Confession: I have serious bike envy. Sleeper does the job, but this $190 bike is giving me an inferiority complex.

Confession: Running less while maintaining my workout volume is making me love running more. I appreciate every mile.

Confession: I registered for a Fall Sprint Triathlon. I can't wait to see what I can do when I actually train.

Confession: Once all of my kids are in school, I will be an Ironman. It might be in two years. It might be in 10. But it will happen.

So, what are you hiding from the rest of us?

I really love that you wear your socks even inside on your bike. :)

be a stalker on craigslist and you can find a nice bike for much less than in a bike shop. I stalked religiously for 3 months and found a $1500 trek with clips and bike shoes for $700. :)

PS--I want that bike trainer!

I'm so glad you are enjoying the tri training! I was wondering how hard it would be for you to give up your super run miles for a little bike and swim! Hang in there with the bike and keep your eyes open. Even a road bike would definitely be easier for you!!

Yeah! I hope I love swimming as much as you... and I know what you mean about running love... whenever I XT more, I'm always more appreciative of my run.

Cycling is fun, isn't it? It wasn't until I got onto an actual road bike that I figured 'well...this is actually kinda cool!'!

Love! When I started training for triathlons I missed running more at first, but I got over that quickly and fell in love with tri-ing! Happy training!

You are such a badass mom. I love it!

i agree ~ the last year training did make me appreciate my run more. But my issue is never the training. I love to swim & ride... however, the drama of Tri race day drives me over the edge.

Love It. This is awesome.

Just a little help for you.....lay a towel under the bike so that you don't have to wipe up the sweat off the floor when you are done.

Get a TV tray to hold water bottles, etc of can you reach them if they are on the mantle?

Yay! Triathlon and I met too soon, lol. I too hope to be an Ironman once the kids are in school. Hopefully then I will fall back in love with swimming & biking!

I confess that I hate biking. I love swimming, but hate the bike... so far. I'm hoping me and the bike will have a whirlwind romance which results in a lifelong long... we shall see.

The word on the street is to check ebay and some of the local tri group discussion boards for good deals on bikes. (or maybe one will appear for your bday...). Love that you are really getting into the tri training. I really like the variety of it. You definitely have the mindset to do an ironman. Once you have a little more free time to put into training, I can absolutely see you conquering that goal!

I want to love swimming one day....actually I'd take just not feeling like I am dying.

I couldn't believe how much I loved the swim when I was tri training last summer. I've got to get back in the pool asap.

Just found your blog through Tough Chik! I was looking to see if there were any other TC's from VA and so there are! HI!

I fell in love with running when I started last year but I was pretty nervous about how I would like triathlon training. Turns out it is even better! And I definitely get bike envy too

I love my spin bike, I don't own an actual bike, but having a Spin bike at home has allowed me to sneak in extra workouts really easily as I enjoy it.

Tri training has made me a better, faster runner, which is awesome.

I was just talking to another runner friend about how much I want to do a triathalon! Your post makes me even more sure of that fact!!

Take a look at http://www.racingtales.com/ for good advice and insight from a Mom and former runner who did her first 1/2 ironman this year.

Definitely look into a used tri-bike. My wife and I both got used Felts online for under $700 with decent components. Aerodymanics and positioning will really be appreciated. Buy it now so you can train with it.

It's hard to balance running and weight training. I think I almost love weights more than running, but I love what running has done for my body and my self esteem...I'm not fast, but it's faster than not doing it at all and I give it my all so that's all that matters!

I LOVE that you're loving Tri! Can't wait to hear about your upcoming races!

you are strong girl! I love this! so excited to see what the year will bring for you!

Ooooh you make it sound so fun!

I'm a runner who has been secretly (or not so secretly) wishing I could do a tri -- I will someday. I don't have the $$ or resources for a bike and I don't have access to a pool. Eventually I will sort it out though because I'm so intrigued by this sport!!

Enjoy your journey!!

It didn't take more than a few weeks of tri training last summer for me to realize that Ironman is in my future, too.

So, are you going to get a bike for your 30th??

Unknown said...

a bike is important but what is more important is the engine ;) remember that.

even though you have a pretty new bike, keep that engine humming smooooooth
