a trifecta of letters ...

Dear Run,

We've been together for a long time. You were the one who helped me lose the baby weight and the one that showed me just how powerful I am. You nourished my soul and strengthened my being. And I will forever love you for that.

But, I'm not in love with you.

I'm sorry. It just kind of happened. For a long time, I tried to fake it, but you're just not my number one anymore. Maybe, one day you'll regain that title, but for now, I think it best that you realize that things have changed. You will always be in my heart. I hope you can wait.

Love,
TMB

Dear Bike,

I'd love to tell you that you are awesome and that I can't wait to spend hours on end with you, but that would be a lie. You still freak the heck out of me. I like you a lot more when I visit you on my trainer, but even then you leave me wanting more. I mean, is it really too much to ask you not to crush my lady parts? No, I didn't think so.

All the best,
TMB

Dear Swim,

By now, you may have heard about what is going on between me and Run. We are going through a rough patch and I just don't love him like I used to. And if we are being honest, it's entirely your fault.

Sure, you make me look like a fool with those latex caps and tinted goggles, but you make me feel so free and strong. Rarely is there a day when I wish for our time together to end. Just this morning, I added 1000 meters to my workout just to be with you longer.

I'm so sorry for all of the horrible things I said about you in the past. I didn't mean them. I just didn't know you well enough to understand your appeal. I never should have doubted you. Please forgive me.

Submerged in love,
TMB

Love it!!! I feel the same way about running and biking and I have been neglecting swimming - need to get back on it this week. Thanks for sharing.

I love this post and I adore swimming too! You're doing awesome and can't wait to see how you do at your half ironman! So proud of you for going after it.

Great post! I wish I could develop even a mild crush on swimming (real swimming not just splashing around in our pool) but I simply don't have it. I'm so glad you are finding new loves with your tri training. That is what will keep you a well rounded athlete for a life time. Congrats on your new love. May it only grow sweeter.

I still don't get it with the swim. Hehe.

Love this post! Swimming is my favorite of the three also, despite the goggle marks and chlorine scented skin. I have to say as much as you were crushing on running, I never thought I would hear you say you wanted to be 'just friends' with the run :)

Love it! Wish I could say the same about swimming. I do TRY, but I have such poor form that I'm super inefficient in the water, which is just no fun. Plus, I don't get the same endorphin rush.

Great post! I suck at swimming but I love it. I do love biking too but running not always so much.

When you bought a wetsuit did you buy full or sleeveless?

Unrelated to post.........now I am in NCIS where it appears Tony was killed. I had to stop watching and go online to research and see if he was in more episodes later. I could not keep watching if he died. That would be too much!

Hilarious! I hope to love swimming some day...or at least like it.

How delightful for you to have so many options. Maybe consider an open relationship?

I could have written the same letter to Swim. I think it is about the challenge of the swim. Getting faster and better at the pool is the challenge and being HoneyBadgers we are going to pursue it and try to beat it.

Awesome. Imagine if someone had told you that you'd feel this way 6 months ago? Cah-razy! Swimming rocks my world.

I found your blog while searching for inspiration with keeping up some degree of fitness during pregnancy. My runs are getting shorter but I am loving the pool right now! Just today I rode my bike for the first time in months! The first trimester wasn't great for fitness... Good luck at the 70.3 in Texas! Can't wait to hear a race report!
