new words ...

When Dizzle (my child who never stops talking) was younger, she had a speech delay. At the age of two, she said three words. Mama, Dada and Baby. The rest of her vocabulary was jibberish. Jibberish that J and I mostly understood.

It turns out that we were anticipating all of Dizzle's needs, thus she had no reason to talk. We enrolled her in speech therapy and at the end of her first eight week cycle, she was discharged. And from that moment on, she hasn't stopped talking.

Doodle, on the other hand, has had typical vocabulary development. If all the books said she should have 50 words by X age, then that is exactly what she did. To J and I, she seemed incredibly intelligent. But, really, she was just like every other kid (she just seemed to speak so much better than other kids, since we were used to Dizzle's speech patterns)

Then came Dilly. And we really didn't know what to expect. Our pediatrician suggested that she may speak early, having two older siblings as a guide. But we also knew that she might end up like Dizzle, only she would have four people anticipating her needs instead of two.

As it turns out, our pediatrician was right. Dilly has a crazy vocabulary. She has been speaking in 2-4 word phrases for months. She repeats everything she hears from song lyrics (her current favorites are Baby by Justin Bieber and Follow Me Down by 30H!3) to the crazy things that come out of her sisters' mouths.

In the past few days, she has taken a real liking to naming body parts. She sits there and point at the body part and says it's name. She has had toes and nose down for a while. Then she added mouth and eyes and ears. And thanks to Doodle, who ran around our house naked yesterday, Dilly has a new favorite - boobies. Which comes out more like, "oooo, boobies".

Just what you really hope your 18 month old will say while you are out in public ...

LOL!

Jones was an early talker. Like at 8 months. His word for boobies (thank goodness) was nanos. One time at the airport when he was just old enough to walk, they made him walk through security. He started screaming nanos at the top of his lungs. I've never been so glad he made up his own word for them as I was at that point. LOL

Of course, it was years before Beer Geek and I could not snicker whenever we heard ipod nano.

we've been trying to teach Tristan the differences between boys and girls (so he knows he's a boy). We were on vacation on the Royal Gorge train in CO...he pinches my boob and says "boob right there" over and over...I couldn't stop laughing.

But lately he's also said "amazing" and "beautiful" it's so cute. He's pretty delayed in his speech too.

My two-year-old boy is obsessed with boobies, and if he's in the room when I'm changing he'll stare at me. I would think that's bad, but what's worse is when I try putting clothes on and he screams "I want to touch your boooooooobies!!!!!!"

It's really hard not to laugh.

Until my oldest son was 6, he called boobs "nickels" (he thought that was the word for nipples). I LOVED it!

Hahaha! Your post is about boobies! LOL! Yes, I'm like an 8 year old boy :)

Congrats on the high mileage week. You're right, it's amazing what we once thought to be impossible to now be so doable. I would love to run over 55 miles a week but anything over that and my body shuts down. My favorite mileage is 45-50, makes for a happy Katie.
Happy Tuesday!

Neat how each kid is different.

LBM had created his own language (thanks to me jumping to respond to every "sound" he makes). I do know that Army Son spoke later than S'ghetti did so I also know that boys master language later than girls.

LBM says his word for "juicy" when referring to boobies. Being that he is still nursing it makes for interesting public interaction!

My son always found a legitimate reason to talk about his wiener in public. Those situations never came up in private though, go figure.

So cute! Not exactly what you want your child saying, but it must be so much fun watching her grow and learn new words.

He he he, That is too funny! After, watching me breastfeed my youngest, my oldest son would try to pull down my shirt in public whenever the "baby" cried saying "Brady hungry!" even now that he is over one!

Too funny. My kids are obsessed with boobs. We about who has boobs and who doesn't and why my boobs look sad just about every day. The two yr old also like to scream that she has to poop when ever we are in a store.

hahaha. that's so great. my 2 1/2 year old just pats my chest while i'm holding him and usually i don't even notice it til someone's looking at us - my bra is so padded i can't even feel it... why does the weight always leave there first? :)

So far 3 of 4 of my kids will probably grow up to be play by play announcers. They have great vocabularies and a never ending desire to explain every little thing occuring.

It's my favorite word even today! ;)

It's a happy word. You can't say "boobies" and be pissed off. I dare you. ;)

Nice. Thankfully M called mine "nursies" so it was more about function than body part. However, he does have the unfortunate habit of calling freckles "nipples"... he's 3 so is very adamant about it too.

So funny. When my daughter was just 3, we were waiting to board our flight to Disney World. She had a nice conversation with the gate attendant about how he had a penis and she had a vagina. Luckily, she has a very piercing voice, so everyone waiting to board heard, too LOL What can you even say to that?

I love it!

I also LOVE the nicknames. Do you have a post that explains how you gave them their nicknames?

P.S. I'll feel like a schmuck if hope those are their real names.

I've been away from blogs for a while this summer! Thanks for stopping by and yes we will have to meet up in Indy in October. I can't believe you are almost to 1000 miles already and I am secretly worrying how I am going to manage to make it 382 more miles!!!! Schedules are back in force here so hopefully I can fit in blogging more again!
