you might have a fit family if ...

Ever wonder if the rest of your family is on the active train with you? Well, wonder no more. Here is a sure fire guide to deciphering your family's fitness obsession.

You might have a fit family if ...

... no one thinks it odd that you wake at 5 a.m. just to get your run in.

... you workout twice a day and it's seen as dedication and not pure lunacy.

... your children think that you need knee high socks to go running.

... your husband (who is built like a linebacker) takes your suggestion and trains for a half marathon.

... your children cry because they aren't invited to go running with you.

... your daughter will hip check her own teammates to get the ball.

... your three-year old has tree-trunks for quads and abs to die for.

... your family collectively owns enough workout clothing to outfit a small country.

... you plan your vacations around sporting events.

... you've walked in on your children doing push-ups and sit-ups.

... it's OK to spend over $100 on sneakers, but it's crazy to spend more than $20 on any other footwear.

... your kids would happily eat Gu and Gatorade as a mid-day snack.

... you (or your spouse) has run through the pain, because you thought it might go away if you kept moving.

... you've seen your children, who aren't old enough for Kindergarten, curl a five pound weight.

... your husband wants to get you a Kettlebell for Mother's Day. And you are OK with that.

... you decided what sports your children would play before they were born. Or better yet, you already determined which one would get them a college scholarship.

... a complete diet overhaul is seen as par for the course.

... your husband suggests that you convert your rarely used dining room into a home gym. And you immediately jump on board.

... "I'll race you," is part of your everyday vocabulary.

LOL that is our family! When I'm doing sit ups my 7 year old joins me. She just did her first race an dloved it, keeps asking when is her next race. Her abs and amazing! She comments on people's unhealthy eating habits and would rather have grilled fish and salad then a hamburger and fries (that's my girl. When we go away the hotel needs to have a gym and pool and scuba diving is always a must ;) Yup we ae a healthy active family and loving it!

So true... my kids whine when I won't let them run with me either... if it is 6am.

my kids always whine when I go for a run, I have to sneak out now.
My 7yr old is always asking me when He can sign up for a race.
I was NEVER active until this past December when I took up running, I'm loving the change it has brought to my family.

Oh My gosh, from day 1 I have planned for Oscar to be a golfer or tennis player...after years of soccer I am convinced to not put him in team sports!! (only joking!!) BUT I truly think he will be a crazy cross country runner b/c he reminds me of "one of those guys" from high school and college! And yes, working out 2X a day is so normal and my boys freak out when I say I am going running and they aren't invited for the ride! Have a wonderful day!

When I was a kid my dad used to say that we were the healthiest fat family around. Really, we all exercised regularly and the worst foods in our house were goldfish and light ice cream. And yet, we continue to be larger people. I like your list though. I hope my own family can be like that someday. :-)

BY the way... after my "job" ends on May 21, did you know that the playroom is moving up to the 3rd floor, leaving a vacancy in my diningroom? Just saying...

Congrats on the M'day gift, I'm a little green.

These are great. Some of my favorite times w/ the kids are family fun runs. My son and I are planning to out tonight for a little one-miler together--and it was his idea! Love it.

Lol! Love this! I thought I was the only mommy who is always saying "Race you!" I just read in your comment to MCM Mama that you are certified to coach. How long did it take you to get this certification? I am thinking about doing something along these line (or maybe a personal trainer?) Just not sure of the commitment involved.

Awesome!

I think it's a wonderful thing to have a supportive, understanding and INVOLVED family.

you are killing me.

I love this one.

My fav: your husband wants to get you a Kettlebell for Mother's Day. And you are OK with that.

excellent.

I don't think we're quite there but probably soon. Our 2 yo has huge quads but he's a big guy - no abs in this house (on any of us). LOL

Awesome! So jealous of the home gym - my husband is ok with a treadmill, but that's all he's willing to give up space to.

such a cute post, I love it! esp the turning the dining room into a home gym, my husband would be all for having a home gym in any room!

Great post! Although my little guy is too young to tell yet if he's on board with all this active-ness, I like to credit myself with the fact that my husband will be training for his 3rd marathon. When we first met, I never thought he'd even consider it for a second!

ahaha This was sooo cute! My 3-year old told her "best friend" from school, my Mommy is faster then yours cause she is a runner and my daddy can lift more then anything in the world because he is super strong and him and I can do 5 million push-ups! haha

What a great way to be fit and fabulous the whole family!

Those are great! my husband has already decided that our baby on the way needs to be left handed so he/she can be a left handed relief pitcher!

Funny...I was just trying to justify a road trip by finding a race we could run somewhere along the way.

"...I'll race ya"...if I had a nickle for every time :)

Awesome list. I hope more and more of them apply to us as my girls get older!

Love it! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your advice! I tried it tonight and it worked! I did week 4, run #2 of the Couch to 5k program. It was tougher than I care to admit, but I survived!! My dream is to be able to knock out the long runs like you and then have enough left for P90x ;)

Haha LOVE it!!! My favorite is that the kids are upset if they can't go with you on a run...my 1 1/2 year old has been upset a few times "I run too!" when I don't take him with me in the jogger!
