No Friends - On Monday, Doodle and Dilly were talking about friends. I interrupted their conversation to ask a question, but instead, Dilly turned to me and said,
"I have no friends because I have no preschool."
Between her sad expression and the immediate thought that I had prevented her from meeting kids her own age, I could barely hold the tears back. All I could do was hug her. Unfortunately, I realized in that same instant that she was 100% correct. With the exception of one person, Dilly really doesn't have any friends. At least any friends her age. In fact, I just sent out the invitations for her birthday party later this month and with the exception of her one friend, the party guests are ages 5-12. She's turning 3. Oops.
KDUB's 70.3 Birthday Challenge - Last week I participated in a virtual, cumulative 70.3 race for Karen @ Working It Out's birthday. Here's how it worked. You had from January 1st to January 11th to cover the total distance of a Half Ironman. Easy peasy. Especially when your training plan calls for you cover that distance anyway. My total time was 5:52:45 and it broke down like this ...
swim - 42:55
bike - 3:07:56
run - 2:01:54
Not too shabby. And wicked fun.
Mini Streak - I looked at my training plan yesterday and I realized that after I finished my run last night, it would be my 12th day without a rest day. Oops. I didn't really plan that.
While it's highly likely that my mini streak will end on it's 17th day as I have an off day scheduled for Monday, who knows? Maybe I'll keep it going. Surely, not for 600+ days, but maybe until my birthday. It would be kind of cool to finish out my 29th year on a strong note.

I've been streaking since the end of November and I kind of love it. That being said, I'm definitely not going for 600 days!
I love that you say "easy peasy" about a 6 hour workout. You're my hero.
That whole swimming thing gets in the way of me doing any of these triathlon things - even virtual ones LOL. Nicely done!
I've been exercise "streaking" since December 1. It's been really working out for me. I could never run that many days in a row, but mixing it up is making exercising 7 days a week a habit now. Only took me 40+ years to get here LOL.
So cute and sad about Dilly. Maybe it's time to configure play dates.
And streaks are awesome, but as you well know, rest days serve just as much a purpose as the workouts do. Granted, I know I'll do the same thing from time to time.
awww so sad - I would have been a crying mess :)
Do you belong to a moms group? I belong to my local chapter of the mommies network... what a difference it has made. My son always had kids his own age and playdates set up. I had local moms who knew what I was going through. Mom only events - even a moms weekend at the beach which was a blast! Tons of family events too. I met my best friend through there when my 5 year old was a baby.

Make sure you take those rest days during this 70.3 training. You are going to need them as the rides get into the 3-5 hour range. I fought the rest day for a long time and told my coach to give me more but she never did and now I love the rest day.
It allows my body to recover for sure but more importantly is it allows my mind to recover.
Breaks your heart right? Wish I could help! I know getting my 3 year old involved at a mother's morning out at the local church has been amazing. We are not religious but the social interaction has transformed my babe into a happy confident leader!
I have thought about that same issue if/when we move to VA and I become a SAHM. LBM is used to his gaggle of friends. I need to start checking into the area activites to make sure I can get him interacting with other kids that he might eventually go to school with.
Nice work on your virtual race. I still marvel at triathletes. I'm lucky to be kinda good at one thing. I won't push my luck by adding two more.
YEAH!!! Streaking is awesome. Your idea to go through your birthday is a great one. If MMT 100 happens, I've wonder if 2 years will be as long as mine goes...this time around. ;-)
Shelly, it depends on where you move to on how much stuff there is..where in Va would you be relocating to?
she will make friends! it is never too late.. too cute of a story though
I was never around any other kids at all until I started preschool when I was four, and I turned out okay. :)
Awww that is kind of sad... Just a few more months and she will be in pre-school, right? She will be fine :) (thanks for the shout out BTW).
