Three Things Thursday ...

Run Love - This afternoon, Dizzle's school is hosting an Open House to give the children a chance to meet their teacher, check out the classroom and drop off their supplies before the first day of school.

In addition to the $18 million worth of supplies we need to bring, Dizzle's teacher asked us to fill out a questionnaire, so that she could learn a little something about each student. One of the questions was, "Can you recall a moment this summer that made your child proud?" Not wanting to assume, I asked Dizzle to tell me what she was most proud of this summer.

Her reply? "Running the 5K and being in Runner's World."

Yup, at age 6, my kid is a runner ...

How do you say it? - My arrival in Seattle for Hood to Coast, once again proved to me that NO ONE knows how to say my name. I bet you're thinking, "Sure I do. It's said Ton-ya."

And with that you'd be 100% wrong. Only one person has ever said it correctly upon meeting me. And he fessed up to practicing beforehand.

So, let's clear this up right now.

My name is Tonia.

Pronounced: TOE-KNEE-AHH

Got it? Probably not. That's why most people call me T. Or TMB. Or if you happen to be my oldest friend, Moe.

Responsibility - Sometimes being a grown up sucks. That is all.

haha the pronunciation TOE-KNEE-AHH threw me for a loop for about 24 hours. I had to say it in my head first each time before I said it outloud ;)

Dizzle is awesome... great experience to be proud of! :)

My sister in law is a Tonia, but like everyone else I would have assumed wrong. Thanks for the clarification! :)

Tori? Your name is Tory? I or Y? I am confused. Oh Toni-ah! Can we just call you Toni?

I'd like to say I can relate, but my name is just boring - "James" - allow me to fetch the car...

Look at that. You learn something new every day! I've definitely fallen into the former group with your name before today. All set now though!

my favorite. last week at Irongirl they managed to write my name Kaytie. I guess they figured "Oh hell just put all the letters in there and maybe she won't notice".

Dizzle rocks!! And I agree with Heather, I had to say in my head several times before speaking it aloud. Now I just say, "Oh. You know my blog friend, Tonia? Yes, you do. The one that ran Disney while sick and STILL PR'd under 2 hours..." That is apparently your full name to people that I talk to. :)

I would have got your name right! That's because I'm from South Africa and my home language is Afrikaans. That would be my natural way of saying your name.:) Love that photo of you and your kid, awesome!

That is awesome about Dizzle, and she looks just like you!!!

being a grownup really really sucks, I had to sit in a jury waiting room all day, in silence, and I didn't even get to see a trial :(

Rock on, Dizzle!!!

~Love your mtching outfits! When my three girls race with me we always wear matching outfits...love it!
~I am usually mistaken for a male as my name is Brandon! Really throws people off after they meet me and discover I am a girl!! I do go by BranDee but sign Brandon...really works well when telemarketers call..."nope, there is not a Brandon at this address"!!

I am having such a hard time with re-entry into grown-up land. I want to go back to the van.

You are so super cool. I am so glad we are friends :)

Even after meeting you, and having you pronounce it for me, just saying T seemed a lot easier. But I think I've got it now! And I am proud of Dizzle too!

We're suppose to be responsible?? Damnit........ LOL

Is your real name Antonia? Just checking. No one can say our last name. They always add a t to the end (as in Schmidt). Even when I spell it out for them, 99% of the time, they ask "and then t?" Um, no I'm pretty sure I would have told you t had there been a t. And I get called Brandy a lot.

No idea how to say your name. I am going to say it wrong (in my head when I read your posts forever.) I need to stop in case I ever get to meet you

We don't ask our kids for any school supplies. Too many poor families who wouldn't be able to do it. But counties near us do. I'm glad we don't so no one feels badly if they can't.

T I think you are great and Dizzle is running in your footsteps!

So which syllable is the emphasis on? Is it like the guy's name Tony with an "ah" at the end, or is it toe-KNEE-ah, with the emphasis in the middle?

I actually did know how to say your name, but only because Katye kept saying your name at the start of the Princess Half. After 5 minutes, I figured out who she was talking about. I have a friend named Dana, but its pronounced with a short a, like the boys name Dan. I say it over and over, and still people call her Day-na.
