the bike is back ...

You may or may not know that I am a seasoned triathlete. And by seasoned, I mean I have raced three sprint triathlons, all with zero training. Like literally, zero training. In fact, prior to the my most recent triathlon (August 2010), I hadn't sat on my bike in over two years and I hadn't swam a lap in just as long. Two days before that tri, my bike had flat tires. It was sad. Pathetic, really. But despite that horrible prep, I somehow finished that race third in the Athena division.

Luck? Maybe. Sheer talent? Obviously.

Since that race, my bike has sat dormant in our shed. Until yesterday.

As of last night, my bike has a new home. Right smack in the middle of my living room. And even better than that, I actually used it. For an entire hour. My LONGEST RIDE EVER.

(Yes, I wear the knee highs during EVERY workout.)

(I just really like my leg in this picture.)

Anyway, I plan on riding my bike (which could really use a name) A LOT. I've got some big plans in the works. And J's not going to let me make the upgrades that I want to until I log some serious miles. Now, let's just see if I can stick with it ...

Any guesses on my plan and/or the reason behind it?

How about a name suggestion for my bike?

ok, it's hard to focus on your bike/trainer when you have such nice quads!!!! Ryan and I both have our bikes set up in the house too, we have bikes instead of a kitchen/dining room table. We eat sitting on the couch every night.

70.3i am making the jump this year too my half iron is 6/18 and it would be really nice if it would stop snowing so I could ride my NEW bike!!

Totally agreeing with everyone else and predicting a half iron man or bigger.

I need a name for my bike too : ) I will have to check her for all the suggestions. My advice for indoor biking is trash TV! I recently DVRed a ton of 90210! The is Twila Keeps Running; I am logged in to my other blog and too lazy to change it

I think my husband thinks I have a girl crush on you because every time I open up my Google Reader in the morning I'm saying something like "Oh my gosh, look at what's she's doing now" or "Look at her outfit" or something along those lines. Haha.

Very curious about your next endeavor.

Of course your legs look fab. :-)
And I'm sure you're up to something awesome.

obviously sheer talent!

Love the dedication to the knee highs

It seems we all agree with you on the fab leg! Ha ha... I am guessing a 70.3. It is what all the cool kids are doing these days ;)

My bike has been dormant in the garage for almost a year now. UGH! I have a 70.3 in September so am going to have to dust off the spider webs any day now.

You look great on the bike! I'm tempted to agree with everyone that you're planning a 70.3, but knowing you, I wouldn't be surprised if you were planning to do a full IM...with your determination, I totally see that happening too!

A jack of all trades....I'm thoroughly impressed by all triathletes. Loking forward to following your journey...to 70.3 I'm guessing :)

I'm guessing Ironman, maybe with half IM along the way.

I'm guessing 70.3 with eyes to an ironman the following year. If I could have legs like yours, I'd be a happy woman.

half ironman?! i totally support you becoming a rock star triathlete!

I think you should call her Black Betty. It comes with a badass theme song.

I seriously LOVE your sock collection.

Good luck! My hubs would not go for a bike in the living room...he balks at the idea of a treadmill in there. lol.

How do you keep the kids from wanting their bikes in the living room? :-)

You are totally eyeing an Ironman! I am amazed that you do, literally, it all!!

The bike. Strenua : goddess of strength and endurance (An minor Roman Mythological 'god')

CupCake@ Bigger Girls Can Run Too said...

My guess is a half-ironman/woman or something along those lines.

As for a name for the bike.... that's a tough one. I would go with Black Beauty (kinda girly) or Storm (slightly more superhero...yay XMen)

You inspired me to be a knee high junkie! I should just sign my car over to Little Miss Matched.

HOORAY! biking makes me happy.

I've been tossing around the idea of a tri maybe next year. When you train, how far do you ride and swim?

Tough Chik said...

Yeah bikes! Love the quad photo...so something I would do. I agree with Jen, How in the hell did you qualify for Athena?

Ummm...a good name...what do you think of Sleeper? They call cars that don't look fast, but can blow the doors off other cars sleepers. Your bike doesn't look flashy and fast, but the motor (you) will blow the doors off the competition!

Your leg really does look awesome in that pic! Enjoy the biking!!

What kind of bike is it? I am in the market for something that I can use to pull my kids around with and possibly ride in some sprint tris if I ever get ballsy enough.

misszippy said...

Sounds like IM to me! You DO need an upgrade if you want to put in real miles. Also, come on up to Columbia and do one of our many fabulous tri's here...great hills!

Christine said...

You just made me buy an indoor bike trainer :)

NuevaSarah said...

Your legs are ridiculously awesome. If you start swimming.... I'm guessing Ironman. Cause, it seems like something you would do! You are such a rock star and inspiration!

Little Miss Runshine said...

yay for breaking out the bike!!
Do the pumpkinman!!!!

5 Miles Past Empty said...

You sound EXACTLY like me!! I have NEVER trained for a tri until now!! Pretty sure I can't wing a 70.3. =/

Well I see a iron man in your future....but maybe a 70.3 first. seriously this training is KILLER! I had no clue how much time and juggling it would take. But I can't wait to hear what the plan is!!!!

Kurt @ Becoming An Ironman said...

You're shooting for a win at Kona, aren't you?! Well, I'll see you on the podium!!

Haha. Ok, a real guess. I'd say you want to do an Olympic distance Tri.

I agree with CupCake's name suggestion of "Storm." That or other Gladiator names; Jade, Ice, Gold, etc.

Also, what bike trainer do you use? I'm reviewing my blackburn soon and I'd love to hear about what trainers other people use and whether they like them. Thanks!

I brought mine out over the weekend and had a really fun 21-mile ride. I had forgotten how much fun it was.

Running my first tris this year, bike segment of a relay in June and then the full Olympic distance Nation's Tri in September.

Yay for the bike coming out - great cross training! And I love the knee socks... I often bike in them too - indoors and out! :) I have no shame...

I hope you are doing another tri... maybe an olympic this time???
