I am a runner.
I am a runner who has haphazardly completed three sprint triathlons with zero training. Literally, ZERO.
I am a runner who thinks that finishing a triathlon (especially without training) does not make you a triathlete. Just like randomly showing up to a 5K, finishing and never running again, does not make you a runner.
I am a runner who wants to be a triathlete.
I am a runner who wants to own her triathlete status as much as she owns her runner status.
I am a runner who refuses to give up her mileage base to train for the other disciplines.
I am a runner who "doubles" most days. Sometimes, it's a second run. Last night, it was an hour and a half ride on the trainer (Thank the Lord and SpeeDee for the new seat.)
I am a runner who will RACE her next triathlon, not just show up and finish. Limits will be pushed. Barriers will be broken.
I am a runner who will find the extra hours in the day to get it all done. There will be no excuses. No late nights. Lots of early mornings. Hours upon hours of training each week with one goal in mind - 70.3 in Spring 2012 - My 30th birthday present to myself.
I am MORE than a runner ...

70.3 is no joke. I love the enthusiasm...there's no stopping you now!
Great attitude - we'll celebrate your success next spring!
I am so excited! Yay.
I did more than show up for the first Tri, but my real challenge is Philly in June. I plan to bring it and leave everything else on the course.
I'm pretty sure if I was training for something else I wouldn't want to give up my mileage base either. Good luck!
So very excited for you!!! I'm sure you'll get it all in, 'cause that's how you roll...
Of course you are doing a 70.3 and you will KILL IT. I have no doubt!
So exciting!
I am having the same issue, I want to become a triathlete, but I don't want to give up any of my running time. Good luck!
I knew it! So excited for you! :)
Wow! You go girl! I thought it was going to be this year. All that time to train is just going to allow you to be super awesome!

You'll earn the "triathlete" title in no time.
And, for the record, you are far more then just a runner or a triathlete.

woooot!! 70.3 is such a fun distance and you're going to be awesome at it!
I've been in such a funk today about training. Your post totally inspired me to get out there and do it because I love it and it's what I am.
YEAH GIRL! I don't have a doubt.
OMG, I LOVE it! What 70.3 are you going to race?
And trust me, runners have the best advantage going into triathlons!
You are a super awesome kickass runner. And when you set yourself on racing a half IM you will be a super kickass triathlete, to.
ohhhh!! so excited for you!! it will be fun to follow your journey :)
You will kill this. as you do everything you set your mind to.
Love this.
I've missed you and your take no prisoners attitude. It is awesome that you are becoming a triathlete, they are a cool breed! I can't wait to get back to training, but 70.3 is way out of my range. Kick butt!
Great attitude! The confidence is impressive. I guess a gift like that is kind of on the lay-away plan as in you pay for it a little at a time.
Can't wait to see how all your "payments" pan out next Spring!
LOVE IT! I know you'll get it in... you'll have to change your "Runner First" slogan, though. ;-) This is going to be a great ride to watch... looking forward to hearing about the journey.
"I am a runner who refuses to give up her mileage base to train for the other disciplines."
This is what I am having trouble with right now. I have been getting up early to run and get my miles in and then biking to school and back with some extra mileage to make it long enough. I am beat!
That rocks! I am so excited for you. I really want to learn to swim the right way one day and do a tri for real. Not with some goofy looking head out of the water dog paddle stroke : )
Badass in full effect. I have no doubt that you will KILL it. Can't wait to cheer you on.
Winks & Smiles,
Wifey
Right on, T!
Wow oh wow!! Props to you darlin... I am a Runner...hmmm...
And Maybe I will start lifting weights, doing Pilates and getting back into playing Volley ball. I will leave the Tr-ing to Ya'll
Great post, very inspiring.
Yay!! I'm a wannabe triathalete too!!! I signed up for my first half ironman for in September! Here I come!!! :)
