- I have been known to stand at the freezer and eat ice cream directly out of the carton (You know that it doesn't count if you don't use a spoon, right?)
- I have been known to eat my kids' candy and pray they never notice.
- I have been known to pick out the glazed walnuts from the mixed nuts container.
- I have been known to eat an entire box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch in one day without ever eating from a bowl.
- I have been known to have J hide any chocolate that gets brought into the house so that I can't eat every last bite.
- I have been known to forgo dinner so that I can have a bigger dessert.
- I have been known to eat the remnants of my daughter's cupcakes.
- I have been known to eat entire bags of chocolate chips while standing in my pantry.
- I have been known to eat 7/8 of an ice cream cake. In one sitting.
- I have been known to eat an entire package of raw cookie dough. Also, in one sitting.
- I have been known to consume my weight in Splenda (yes, I realize this is bad).
So, I decided to commit to 30 days of no sweets. No candy. No chocolate. No sugary cereals. No ice cream. No cupcakes. No anything that can be classified as a dessert. I'm on day four. And it's pretty much torture.
Why couldn't I just be addicted to vegetables?

No WONDER you are stressed... this would blow my mind!
Praying for success!
And I to can admit to a couple of these.
I will pray for your family during this time :P Good luck lady you have more will then most!!
I've heard that if you wean yourself off for 30 days the addiction goes away...too bad I can never make it 30 days!
30 days without sweets? If you pull this off, you're my hero!
i am right there with you. it is a real addiction i think.

I have a sugar addiction too. I stopped buying any cookies or icecream and started just buying real fruit popsicles and tried eating fruit, like sweet, juicy oranges, when I wanted sweets. It seems to have helped so far, though the kids just got a bunch of candy and cookies from their Gramma as a pre-Easter treat. I already ate one bag of cookies after they went to bed! But I have not been craving chocolate as much as I was before I cut back. Good luck!!
I hear ya...sugar is evil and I love it as well. Good luck. I did this for Lent last year and it was the longest 40+ days of my life. You can do it, but I hope you have some "evil" left so help with the stress!
OMG I would die. and be really, really grumpy! I LOVE sugar and chocolate. Its why i cant get rid of these last 3-5 pounds, but I think i would rather have sugar than lose the weight. Sad? yes, but I am ok with that!
That is great! Altough I have never done it, I know people who have and say that they feel GREAT after eliminating sugar from their diets. This may sound strange,, but I have done detoxes in which you only eat fruits and veggies and was surprised how sweet tasting even some veggies become after your taste buds readjust! They taste like treats! I hope it happens to you!
I am the SAME WAY and I am contemplating doing this as well. But it's never made it out of the theoretical stage. Maybe if you can do it, I will try too.
30 days, cold turkey? That's hard core.
Oddly the only time I didn't like sweets is when I was pregnant. The though of gooey chocolate or PB totally grossed me out.
ahhhh!!! It would be SO hard for me to go 30 days without sweets. I literally have to have something sweet every day. Pulling for you though! you can do it!
sweets are absolutely my major issue. However, the 30 days sans sweets for me has always resulted in major feelings of failure. I wish you HUGE LUCK!!!
what did work for me at one point was deciding to have 1 type of treat per day. that really dropped things...um not that I'm now back up on sweets
Oddly enough I haven't been craving sweets during this pregnancy like I normally do (which only means that I eat half a bag of Reeses Pieces instead of the whole bag). I've definitely thought about doing the 30 day no sugar thing, but I seriously think I would die. Good luck to you!!
Cold turkey!?!?! What about your coffee? Are you drinking it black?
I'm not even addicted to sugar and I don't think I would be sane after 30 days! BUT if anyone can do it, you can. I admire that you even try to accomplish these things. I just try to limit my "bad" stuff.
Cold turkey right at Easter. You are brave!
I completely relate. For some people sugar is a drug. I know it is for me, and sounds like it is for you.
I cut out all sugar and refined flour for a month last year. The first week was BRUTAL. After that, it actually got easier and I didn't crave it the same way. The problem is, even a little bit is enough to backslide.
I really should do another sugar detox myself...
Good luck with it. You are almost past the worst part.
UGH. I read this right after I ate a sugar cookie!
Good luck T! You can do it! Although, I wouldn't want to. ;)
Why, oh why would you choose to take on this challenge at Easter time>???? You are stranger than me, for certain!
Doing this at Easter time is going to be killer!!! Good luck!!!!
I'm this way with all junk food. Not just sweets. I simply CANNOT keep it in my house because I have zero will power when it comes to food. ZERO.
Need an example? In the past 24 hours I MAY have been known to dip Doritos in Bleu Cheese dressing and call it lunch...
Ummm, you know that Lent is coming to an end, not starting, right? :)
Good Luck!
I was doing something similar. I wasn't baking (and I don't sugary things). I would eat a donut or cookies if they were brought in to work, but not bake. I caved last night. You may not want to read about it.
Good Luck! It can be done but definitely isn't easy! Part of my January challenge was no treats, with Sundays being free day. I did fabulously the first three weeks, but three days the last week I caved. I even did a cleanse in there and in theory all of that together should have helped me conquer the cravings.
Nope.
I craved it just as much, and every treat I ate once January was over tasted just as fabulous as it had before! Oh well. Just knowing that I could go without it was good for me I guess. :) Currently my indulgence is dark chocolate at night, sweet enough to satisfy, not enough calories to make a difference. Works for me!
I am exactly the same way. Good luck to you! I know you will do awesome. My sister in laws and I are doing a similar challenge but we are going from Apr.4th to July 4th! You can have a treat on holidays and your Birthday but other than that nothing! I have actually lost 7lbs since doing this but it is not easy!
Good luck! I'm not addicted to sweets, but salty, crunchy foods (hello cheez-its and baked lays) are definitely my downfall. Power to you for giving them up!
i gave up chocolate one year for lent...I had terrible headaches! I swear my body needs it to function. or at least that's my excuse
Eeek :(
It sounds terrible. But if there's anyone that can do it, it's you.
I don't think I could do this. I need something edible and sweet to look forward to after a long day. Good luck.
Oh. My. Word. That's hardcore! Keep us posted.
i gave up sweets for Lent and totally feel your pain. I was eating “dessert” after breakfast, lunch, dinner and for snacks. Chocolate should be my middle name. The first few days sucked. I then got used to it. I’m not going to lie-knowing that I can have chocolate (or just sweets in general) in 4 days is very exciting. I have some already stored in the freezer. I did decide (after fitting into my skinny jeans again) that perhaps I need to reevaluate after lent. I’m going to sweets only 2x’s a week.
You are braver than I am. Sweets are my weakness. Reeses are especially close to my heart. I don't want to know how many I have eaten this month. Darn egg shaped Reeses why do you have to be so good.
Good luck! You are so strong willed, and I know that you will be able to do it! Me on the other hand...I think I could die.
I'm convinced sweets are part of my genetic make-up. To forego would probably destroy me. Maybe I should do it? :)
I am also a sugar addict. I'd be sleek and slender if I didn't love candy. 2 lb bag of twizzlers... no problem. Praying for you... I really should try this too.
Oh my T!!! I am going to keep myfingers crossed!! I don't have the sweet treat obsession that you have, but I have never met a cracker that I didn't like. I know you can do it!!
Wow..that is a pretty intense challenge! I love sweets too, so I don't think I could do it!! Good luck!!
I feel the same way about Coca-Cola (and God help me if it's Cherry Coke). I think I'll have a hard enough time breaking up with it for the week before the marathon... Good luck!
First of all...amazing for losing 70lbs and keeping it off for so long!
Hang in there...the first week is the hardest. Plus you picked Easter!
hard.core.
but I totally have faith you can do it :)
You are amazing for even setting that as a goal. I've cut way, way, WAY back over the past few months but it would be hard for me to give it up for that long of time.
You're doing it over Easter?!!!
NO chocolate for 30 days? And you start 2 days before Easter? WOW!!! I was reading your post and realized I'm an addict as well, especially since I'm eating ice cream dipped in chocolate while reading ;)
30 days! No!
I will be the one here to tell you it CAN be done!
I have had NO candy and NO chocolate for 16 or 17 years now. I mean it is so many that I'm not even sure of the number. I just ditched it for a New Year's Resolution in 9th grade and it stuck.
So go for 30! You can do it!
I feel you on this. I am a sugar-holic. When people tell me they aren't into sweet stuff, or dont like chocolate, I secretly wonder if they're like those aliens in Men In Black just POSING as humans. I mean, c'mon now, who doesn't like sugar?
Please please keep the public updated on your 30 day quest. If you can do it, I bet it'll inspire a lot of people - myself included - to follow suit.
Good luck! I am excited to hear how the rest of the 30 day challenge goes. I am not sure I could do it!
Good luck! I have the same problem (and have done many of the things that you have above LOL). I am fine as long as I don't start eating sugar. Once I start, it's all downhill from there. I even weaned myself off of sugar in my coffee to help stop that.
The compromise I've found works for me is that I have something sweet after dinner. Then I brush my teeth and stop eating for the day. That way I can have a small treat, but it doesn't turn into a whole bag of whatever.
Oh man, I don't know if I could do that!!! Kudos to you and good luck. I am such a sugar junkie and could have written most of that list myself.
ahhh...it has been on my mind for a while to take out processed sugar from my diet and see how it makes me feel. i have a MAJOR sweet tooth...and still have 5-10 pounds to lose since baby was born almost 3 months ago. i am going to give it a shot though and try the 30 day challenge you are doing. just need to get it OUT of my house because if it is in the house i will seek it out in moments of weakness!!
I too LOVE sweets, mostly baked goods. I can pass by oreos or other store made cookies, but my homemade cookies never. My friend made me a plate of mint chocolate chip cookies which is my fave combo, I think I ate 5 yesterday and one already this morning (I've only been up for 20 minutes). Yikes! Good Luck with your 30 day challange, maybe I will try it...After the cookies are gone.
Love the one about stealing your kids candy...awesome.
Because you are awesome... you'll totally be able to do this. But those of us who aren't as awesome as you think you are nuts! :)
Hi my name is Carly and I'm right there with you.
OH my word, I thought you were writing about me. Dang it, I was going for the 2 week no sugar...you've pushed me to 30. TORTURE.
